History of Alive Church
Our Story…
Inya and Nathalie felt the call of God to start the ministry as several people whom they ministered to came to faith in Christ. One of the new converts was a single mother of two young children who suffered from a severe mental health condition and several other diagnoses. She had a tragic background of neglect and rejection from both her biological family and her former partner.
In search of a remedy, she had undergone different mental health therapies, including electroconvulsive treatment, but her condition only grew worse. After she received Jesus as her Lord and Savior, Inya and Nathalie opened their home many times a week to disciple her and the other new converts. In less than 3 months of her new walk with Jesus, she was totally healed from all her previous mental health conditions and was also later healed from her former gluten allergy. From then onwards many more converts were added to their home as the church continued to grow…
Our Vision
Jesus’ statement in Matthew 16:18 reveals His heart’s vision of building His church on the revelation of Himself as the Messiah. Our vision is to build His church together with Him. The church is given the mandate to teach the knowledge of salvation to the world and make them disciples of Christ. Alive Church’s mandate in pursuit of this vision is to see the following: 1 To see broken families restored. 2 To see people liberated from mental health conditions. 3 To see people revived through the reception of the Holy Spirit. 4 To see believers grow up into spiritual maturity to fulfil their calling.
Inya Nkama
Pastor
Inya Nkama, a husband and father of four, is a former professional basketball athlete with coaching experience and a personal trainer certification. He graduated from Word of Life Bible College and holds a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies from the University of Chester, England. During his active sporting years, he had a life-transforming encounter with the manifest presence of God, an encounter that changed his life forever. The call of God for ministerial preparation meant an early retirement from his sporting career as he set off for bible college training.
Inya’s sport background enables him to utilise the familiar and common principles often found in sports to illustrate and simplify spiritual truths. Just as training is an integral part of an elite athlete’s life, Inya inspires committed believers to build and develop their faith through consistent spiritual training through the Word and prayers.
Nathalie Nkama
Worship Leader
Nathalie is married to Inya and has four children. She currently leads worship at Alive Church Derby, which she planted with her husband. Since childhood, she has always loved using her musical gift to lead people into the presence of God. Nathalie loves introducing people to encounter the intimate transforming presence of Jesus through worship. Her heartbeat is also seeing broken families restored and young people burn for Jesus.
Nathalie studied at Shalom Bible School in Sweden. She has served for several years as a worship leader, youth leader, and youth pastor in different ministries.
